Year 1 2017/18 Welcome
A very warm welcome to Year 1.
Mrs. Beale, Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Plowman have been very impressed with how quickly the children have settled in after the Summer break. They have come back to school full of enthusiasm and with lots to tell us about their holidays !
A big thank you to all parents/carers for the lovely holiday memory boxes that the children have brought in to show us. The children have been showing us their treasures over the past few weeks and we have nearly seen them all now! These boxes have been helping us with our Journeys topic and the children have been looking at the world map to show us where they have been. We have also been practicing our writing by making labels for some of the objects in the boxes and also our maths by counting all the objects in Mrs. Beale's memory box ! The children then decided how they would record this information, using pictures and ordering and writing numbers.
We look forward to seeing you on the meet the teacher morning on the 25th September. We will discuss the home learning that we will be sending home, the reading and key events on the time table such as P.E. You will have the chance to see the lovely learning environment that the children are working in, including the role play area which is a travel agents at the moment and our wonderful outside learning area !
Mrs. Williams will be teaching the children Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning and Mrs. Beale will be teaching Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday. Mrs. Plowman, who is our teaching assistant, will be working in year 1 in the mornings.
We wish you and your child a very happy and successful year at St. Catherines. If you have any concerns or achievements that you would like to discuss or share please do not hesitate to catch us at the end of the day or write us a message in the home-school link book in your child's book bag.
For our history topic 'changes',In February, we had a very interesting day at The Priest House Museum. We learnt about toys and washing in the past. We also made peg dolls and listened to a lovely story about paper dolls. We then went on a hunt to find the dolls. Thank you to the super mum helpers that came along on the day and thank you to the PA who gave us the money for the coach. It was greatly appreciated by us all.
The children were extremely well behaved and really enjoyed their day.
