Catholic Life of our school

St Catherine's:

A family united in God's love,

learning in faith together for a compassionate tomorrow.

We are a welcoming learning community, who worship and celebrate God’s love for us, witnessing  this daily,  prioritizing the welfare of our children and sharing the word of God.The partnership of our parents is highly valued as we nurture and support our pupils, providing challenges which allow them to strive to reach their potential.

Prayer is an important part of our daily routine and we regularly gather together for worship as a class group, year group, key stage or whole school group each week.

Religious Education is taught within the context of the National curriculum. Whilst all schools make provision for R.E. within the curriculum, in a Catholic school it is treated as a core subject and as a result, we devote 10% curriculum time to this subject.  This means that the total time for explicit R.E. teaching at St Catherine's is: 2 hours for KS1 and 2.5 hours for KS2 following the 'Come and See' programme which includes spending time learning about other faiths. Below is an outline of when we will be covering each topic throughout the school year.

Acts of Collective Worship
Worship is a central part our school life. We celebrate an act of worship everyday.
Monday We join together virtually as a community for liturgy, linked to the Sunday Gospel.
Tuesday in class worship
Wednesday in class worship
Thursday in class worship
Friday in class worship
We also celebrate on a regular basis with Fr Paul, the parish priest from St Catherine's Parish in Wimborne.
Class Liturgy
We celebrate class liturgies, which the children take responsibility for the organisation and planning. Each class invite parents to join them once a term for the class liturgy on a Thursday afternoon at 2:30pm.
However, due to COVId, we are unable to invite parents and parishioners into school.
Here at St Catherine's our children participate in daily christian meditation. More details are in the leaflets below
