Music aims to ensure that all pupils:
- perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians
- learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
- understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the interrelated dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations
Each class has a weekly music lesson with Mrs Kernick
The School Choir helps lead the singing in Assemblies and Masses, as well as preparing music for special occasions. The choir also goes out to entertain at local venues – mostly for the elderly.
Foundation and Key Stage 1 present a Nativity play each Christmas and Key Stage 2 present a summer show in July. There are also opportunities for instrumentalists to perform throughout the year.
Music plays an important part in the worship life of our school, with modern relevant hymns being sung, accompanied where possible by instrumentalists.
